Zakaria Zoundi

Policy Advisor, Tracking Progress

Zakaria Zoundi is a Policy Advisor with IISD’s Tracking Progress team, exploring emerging frameworks to measure national and international progress, including comprehensive wealth. As an economist and data analyst, he holds several years of experience working on macroeconomic policy, development issues, statistical and econometric analyses, and the measurement of indicators beyond GDP, such as natural capital, human capital, and physical assets. His past work experience includes the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. 

Zakaria holds a PhD in economics from Kobe University (Japan) and a master’s degree in economic data science from Carleton University (Canada). He resides in Ottawa and is a dual citizen of Canada and Burkina Faso.
