INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT LAW AND THE CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITION
Thursday, 23 March 2017 @ 12.30-13.45
(with sandwiches served starting at 12.00)
The transition to renewable energy sources is of high priority for many countries, but like with any transition, not everything always runs smoothly, and disputes occur. In Europe, there are several investment arbitration cases ongoing relating renewables. What do they mean for the clean energy transition? How can states better structure and use feed-in tariffs? What do the cases mean for industrial policy and governmental policy space? Join Aaron Cosbey to discuss Charanne BV v Spain; VC Holding v Italy; and others.
Speaker: Aaron Cosbey is a development economist with 25 years of experience in the areas of trade, investment and sustainable development. His work cuts across trade and investment law and policy, energy and climate change, subsidies and green industrial policy.
