Stefanie Schacherer

Associate

Stefanie Schacherer is an Associate with IISD’s Economic Law and Policy Program. She is also an Assistant Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University.

Stefanie contributes to IISD’s advisory services to developing countries on questions of investment law and governance. She was previously involved in the negotiations of the Pan-African Investment Code and served as an expert in the TAF2+ long-term investment support to Burkina Faso. Stefanie is the author of numerous publications on sustainable development and international investment law, the European Union’s investment policy and the investment regime of Africa. Her monograph Sustainable Development in EU Foreign Investment Law was published by Brill Nijhoff in 2021.

Stefanie worked for several inter-governmental institutions, including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the African Union Commission and the European Union External Action Service. She is a member of the Academic Forum on Investor-State Dispute Settlement, UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and serves as an advisor to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Stefanie obtained her PhD from the University of Geneva and the University of Vienna in July 2019. She holds a masters and bachelor of law from the University of Geneva, as well as an LL.M. from King’s College London.

Stefanie is fluent in English, French and German, and is based in Singapore.
