Investment Guarantee
Instrument Description
The Norwegian Export Credit Guarantee Agency (GIEK) reports to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries. The Investment Guarantee covers foreign political risks for investors and lenders that wish to invest abroad. Covered risks include expropriation, civil unrest and new foreign exchange restrictions.
Eligible Projects and Transactions
The Investment Guarantee can be issued either to the investor or to the bank providing a loan for the investment.
Eligible Regions
The instrument is available globally, except in countries where sanctions on Norwegian foreign investment exist. This includes Russia, North Korea and Iran.
Key Features
- Size of coverage: GIEK may, after a detailed risk assessment, guarantee up to 90 per cent of the investment or loan.
- Tenor of coverage: up to 20 years.
