In-School and Community Presentations

Presentations combine multimedia elements documenting the work that occurs at the experimental lakes; hands-on activities related to freshwater ecology; and discussions of local and global freshwater issues led by IISD-ELA’s Education Staff.

While the size of large (40+) groups may limit our ability to actively involve everyone, every effort will be made to deliver an interactive experience for all audience members.

Presentations are typically an hour but can easily be adjusted and made longer or shorter to fit the time constraints of school periods or facility bookings. Generally, presentations follow an agenda of:

  • Global and local freshwater issues and why they are important
  • What is science? An overview of the scientific method
  • What is IISD-ELA and why is it unique?
  • Disrupting ecology and trophic cascading: A discussion of IISD-ELA experiments
  • Freshwater ecology: Interactions and the food chain
  • What can IISD-ELA contribute? What can you contribute to the preservation of fresh water?

We currently offer presentations in Winnipeg year-round and in northwestern Ontario from May-June. We will visit rural schools as long as multiple presentations can be arranged.

AND we also offer up virtual tours, so distance should not be an issue!
