Lake 114 is known as the “minnow lake”—a small shallow lake that has only small fish species, including fathead minnow, dace, and stickleback.
Back in the 1970s, Lake 114 played a critical role in experiments that helped us understand the implications of acid rain on aquatic ecosystems.
In recent years, Lake 114 has been the site of a whole host of exciting new experiments in mesocosms exploring what emerging contaminants do to our fresh water. These include selenium (2017/18) and Metformin, a very commonly prescribed diabetes drug (2019).
