Fisheries Subsidies: New Data on Notifications and Fishing Patterns
This informal dialogue will give WTO Members the opportunity to discuss two important new sources of data to help inform negotiations on fisheries subsidies at the WTO
Breakfast Dialogue – Feb 27, 08:30-09:45
This informal dialogue will give WTO Members the opportunity to discuss two important new sources of data to help inform negotiations on fisheries subsidies at the WTO. The first is a compilation of total subsidy amounts provided to fisheries collected from WTO notifications, which provides Members with an accessible and user-friendly data set reflecting exactly what is notified to the WTO. The second is an analysis of fishing activity drawn from satellite data that identifies the proportions of fishing that take place within EEZs, on the high seas and in EEZs other than that of the flag state, which will provide a sense of the impact of different proposals on the table to discipline subsidies to fishing in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
