Aliana Fristensky

Policy Advisor

Aliana Fristensky is a policy advisor with IISD’s Water program.

In this role she supports a range of activities across the SUNCASA project in Africa as well as environmental systems analysis efforts in Canada including Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Eastern Prairies Living Labs project.

Prior to IISD, she worked as a research scientist with McMaster University’s Watershed Hydrology Group, where she analyzed and managed large water quality data sets in support of student projects and created procedural documents to standardize data processing steps for water quality data. Aliana also led a surface water field investigation to examine aquatic carbon dynamics in a permafrost-influenced watershed in Yukon Territory which built upon long-term monitoring and hydrologic research efforts in the watershed.

She holds a master’s degree in earth and environmental sciences from McMaster University and a bachelor’s degree in applied environmental science, from the University of Winnipeg.
