Ege Tekinbas
Lead, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion
Ege Tekinbas is Lead, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) with IISD’s Economic Law and Policy Program. She brings over 20 years of professional experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment, elimination of violence against women, and social development, including work with international organizations such as UN Women, the World Bank, the European Union, and the Council of Europe.
Ege leads GESI work for the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF), supporting the IGF Secretariat to develop and implement mining-specific gender policies, programs, and practical guidance for governments and stakeholders.
Her work includes publications on gender-responsive mining governance and impact assessment, including a co-authored chapter in Sustainable Mining Governance: Social, Environmental and Political Discussions, and she has contributed to high-level dialogues as a moderator and speaker at events such as Mining Indaba, the Commission on the Status of Women, the OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada convention.
Ege’s work also contributes to crosscutting IISD initiatives on sustainable agriculture and food systems, voluntary sustainability standards, and infrastructure for resilience, and she supports internal efforts to strengthen coherence on GESI across the Economic Law and Policy Program.
She is based in Ottawa, Canada, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Turkish.
