Incheon Communiqué: Strengthening planning and implementation capacities for sustainable development in the post Rio context
IISD recently assisted the newly created United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) based in Incheon, Korea, in holding its first international conference. The three-day meeting covered innovations, challenges and lessons learned in the preparation and implementation of strategies for sustainable development; how to mainstream Rio+20 outcomes into national strategies and other instruments; and how to accelerate implementation via knowledge sharing, capacity building and the scaling up of good practices. The UNOSD has committed to hosting an annual Sustainable Development Implementation Forum aimed at government planners and managers at the national and subnational levels from around the world. The forum will be a venue for sharing innovative practices in sustainable development strategy-making and implementation, and to discuss the scaling up of solutions for complex cross-cutting issues such as the water-energy-food security nexus.
