UNEP Global Environment Outlook, Chapter 16: Scenarios and Sustainability Transformation

This chapter, entitled "Scenarios and Suitability Transformation," is part of the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP's) Global Environmental Outlook (GEO)-5 publications.

The GEO-5 provides an overview of the current state of the environment, key drivers and pressures globally and seeks current and potential future responses. Chapter 15 focuses on summarizing currently available scenarios developed by academia, research institutes, and international organizations to outline the present situation and explore possible sustainable futures. In this chapter (16), goals and thresholds set by international agreements and key publications are used to identify unsustainable trends. Its final section outlines key measures that are necessary for the sustainability transformation that will help society toward a more sustainable path.
