The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) organized an event about financing nature-based infrastructure on October 11, 2019, as part of the Building Bridges Week event series in Geneva. Among other topics, the panel discussed the role of catastrophe bonds, resilience bonds, tax increment financing and sustainability impact bonds in financing nature-based assets. The importance of valuing the infrastructure services which nature provides also came up frequently during the subsequent discussion. This is an area where SAVi has an important role to play.
At a separate event during the same week, IISD was also asked to give a keynote presentation to a group of investors on the future of sustainable investing. With the help of SAVi, more governments understand now the cost of environmental and social externalities of infrastructure projects. This will lead to more ESG regulation, which will have an effect of valuation of companies and projects with large negative ESG footprints.
