Building on work carried out by the National Council for Sustainable Development (NCSD) of the Cambodian government and WWF/Luc Hoffmann Institute in the provinces of Kratie and Stung Treng, this SAVi assessment provided an in-depth examination of the economics of power generation. We used SAVi to analyze the economic viability of various energy technology options for power generation in Kratie and Stung Treng, relative to hydropower plants. The analysis also included an estimation of electricity demand and the options for increasing the supply and access to energy. In comparing coal, gas and solar technologies, the SAVi assessment shows that solar power provides the most attractive investment case when accounting for climate and health-related externalities.
