According to the International Institute for Sustainable Development; Indonesia’s government spent $18 billion (Dh66 billion) on petroleum subsidies and $9 billion on electricity subsidies in the fiscal year 2013, equivalent ‘to 2.5 per cent of GDP and 25 per cent of total government expenditure’.
