Workshop on Strategies to Address Soil Acidity in the East African Community
Soil acidity in East Africa is threatening agricultural systems, posing a problem for many smallholder farmers in the region. IISD is working with the East African Community (EAC) to develop recommendations for tackling soil acidity using lime and other soil conservation measures.
These recommendations were presented to policy officials from EAC partner states and subject experts during a 2-day workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. It focused on five strategic priority areas based on research, interviews, and findings from a series of case studies. It also outlined actors that can help coordinate and implement each recommendation, as well as provided opportunities for participants to share experiences and lessons learned.
