SUNCASA
I-Scaling Urban Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa (SUNCASA) iyiprojekthi yeminyaka emithathu ehlose ukuthuthukisa ukunika amandla okumelana nokuguquka kwesimo sezulu, ukulingana ngokobulili, ukubandakanya imiphakathi, kanye nokuvikelwa kwezinhlobonhlobo zezemvelo emiphakathini yasemadolobheni e-Ethiopia, eRwanda kanye naseNingizimu Afrika.
I-SUNCASA izohlomulisa abantu abayizidingi ezingu-2,2 abahlala ezindaweni ezisengozini yokuhlaselwa yizikhukhula eDire Dawa (e-Ethiopia), eKigali (eRwanda) naseJohannesburg (eNingizimu Afrika). Ixhaswe yi-Global Affairs Canada ngohlelo lwe-Partnering for Climate futhi ilethwe yi-IISD kanye ne-World Resources Institute, i-SUNCASA izosebenza ngokubambisana nezinhlangano eziningi zasezindaweni.
Lo msebenzi we-NbS ohlanganisa abantu bobulili obahlukahlukene uhlanganisa ukuvuselela kanye nokulondolozwa kwezindawo eziphakeme lapho imifula iqala khona ngohlelo lokutshala izihlahla, ukutshalwa kabusha kwamahlathi, ukuvuselelwa kwamahlathi, ukwakhiwa kwama-buffer zone, kanye nokutshalwa kwezihlahla emadolobheni.
IZINDAWO LO MSEBENZI OWENZELWA KUZO
eDire Dawa
I-SUNCASA izovuselela indawo okuhamba kuyo umfula i-Dechatu e-Dire Dawa, e-Ethiopia, okuzonciphisa ingozi yezikhukhula, ukuguguleka komhlabathi kanye nokuntuleka kwamanzi emadolobheni, kuhlomule abantu abangaphezu kuka-200,000.
eKigali
EKigali, eRwanda, i-SUNCASA izovuselela izindawo ezingamaxhaphozi ezindaweni ezisezansi noMfula iNyabarongo, inciphise ingozi yezikhukhula, ukudilika komhlabathi nokuguguleka kwenhlabathi, ithuthukise izimpilo zabantu abangu-975,000.
eJohannesburg
I-SUNCASA eJohannesburg, eNingizimu Afrika, izovuselela ukugelezela kwamanzi eMfuleni iJukskei ngokususa izinhlobo zezimila ezingezona ezendabuko kule ndawo nangezinhlelo zokutshala izihlahla, okuzonciphisa izikhukhula futhi kuqinisekise ukuthi abantu abayizigidi ezingu-1,045 bazolokhu benawo amanzi.

As one of the city’s largest rivers, the Jukskei’s roughly 50km course inexorably marks it as a casualty of Johannesburg’s rapid urbanisation. Its deeply eroded waterways have long been a repository of the city’s sewage, stormwater, litter, industrial waste and building rubble. But through the work of the community-based Alexandra Water Warriors, the healing and restoration of the blighted river is under way. (Photo: Delwyn Verasamy| M&G)
