Fisheries Subsidies: Designing Effective Dispute Resolution
This informal dialogue will set out the various questions that have arisen in the WTO fisheries subsidies negotiations about whether, and if so, how, the application of the existing dispute settlement mechanism might need to be adapted to enable effective resolution of disputes under a new fisheries subsidies agreement. The first session will build understanding of how the system currently works, in law and in practice, and look at examples of how the rules have been adapted to serve other agreements. The second session will look specifically at the areas in which adaptations of the existing rules might be necessary, or helpful, to enable the DS system to work effectively for a fisheries subsidies agreement.
