As part of its work on energy policy and sustainable development in Indonesia, the Global Subsidies Initiative publishes a regular briefing on issues related to energy subsidies.

The February 2014 edition includes:

• 2013 subsidy expenditure is announced likely to have exceeded budget once again
   
• The provincial government of Jakarta proposes the elimination of fuel subsidies in its jurisdiction to increase spending on public transport
   
• Debate continues about plans to overhaul PT Pertamina and PT PGN
   
• 12kg-cylinder LPG prices are increased and then immediately decreased again following public opposition
   
• Minister of Finance Chatib Basri, announces the preparation of a "closed-distribution mechanism" for subsidy targeting
